Yesterday’s release date delay was disappointing and there’s been speculation that the delay was down to the release of the next-gen consoles. Today CD Projekt has reassured console owners there will be Cyberpunk 2077 console backwards compatibility as well as an upgrade.
As well as being compatible with the new consoles, gamers will be pleased to hear an upgrade will be released. CD Projekt will release an upgrade to take advantage of the next-gen hardware which will be made available for free. Great news if you were concerned about upgrading the hardware but not be able to utilise all that new power.
A later upgrade to Cyberpunk 2077, taking full advantage of the next-gen hardware, will be available for free.

Based on these confirmations. it’s unlikely that the release date delay has anything to do with the release of the new consoles.
